TRYSULL AND SEISDON PARISH COUNCIL VOLUNTEER GROUP CLEAR IN EXCESS OF EIGHT TONS OF SOIL / SAND / ROAD CHIPPINGS FROM TRYSULL HOLLOWAY TO ALLEVIATE THE RISK OF FLOODING AND VEHICLES SKIDDING ON MUD

Here we have a wonderful example of how an inspirational initiative by the Trysull and Seisdon Parish Council has helped to make the Parish a safer, more beautiful place. The initiative has benefited not only Parishioners but all visitors and any road users passing through. This involved recruiting volunteers to join with residents of Trysull Holloway to clear in excess of eight tons of soil, sand and road chippings which had been washed down The Holloway during successive heavy rain storms. The accumulated soil was causing repeated drain blocking and flooding. Due to austerity and lack of funding the District and County Council has not been in a position to address the problem but thanks to the efforts of the Parish Council and Victoria Wilson, our District and County Councillor, arrangements were made to for the eight tons of soil collected by the volunteers to be taken away by a grab lorry and for the drains to be cleaned.

The Parish Council now has other projects it intends to tackle in the Parish and seeking to recruit more volunteers. This project in Trysull Holloway has been a tremendous success. The volunteers joined with residents of The Holloway to form an enthusiastic team which achieved spectacular results. Putting in over three hours of sustained effort, there was a marvellous camaraderie and good humour and everyone involved got a sense of satisfaction from a job well done.
